Summary
This book is about Talia, a young girl who lives on the border of the kingdom of Valdemar. She is one of the holderkin, a group of people that are rather extreme, forcing girls to be married at age 13. Talia is informed on her 13th birthday that she has a choice- be married, or become one of the cloistered of the Goddess. She runs away, and 'finds' Rolan, one of the legendary companions. She begins on a trek to 'return' him to the collegium of Heralds. Litte does she know that Rolan has other plans!
My Thoughts
This is the first book Mercedes Lackey ever wrote set in Valdemar/Velgarth, and the first she reccomends those who plan on reading the series to begin with. This is one of my favorite books, simple because of the author. Talia is just one of those characters you can't help but like. I'd reccomend it to anyone!
