In this book, Rhiannon arrives in Lucere, the capital, as a prisoner. She is thrown into prison, while Lewen and the rest of the apprentice witches are immersed in a deadly plot to kill the King and upset balance in their land.
This is one of the few books that picks up exactly where the last left off. We first see Rhiannon on her trip into the city, before she is taken to prison for her crime of killing a Yeoman, one of the King's personal gaurds. The royal family is introduced in this book, including the eldest son's fiance, Brownwen, daughter of Maya The Ensorceller. Rhiannon is in prison for all but the last few chapters, and so a lot of focus in on the other characters, but Rhiannon is still the true main character, as well as Lewen. This one was a bit confusing at first, but after you got to know who everyone was, it was absolutely terrific. Another I'd reccomend.
